Consulting on Documentation

We have been creating courses since 1985. Not only have we created hundreds of courses, we have also helped companies create user manuals, policy and procedure manuals and operational manuals. In all cases we begin work after we have a written agreement in place. Our strong recommendation is that Training materials, User Manuals and Policy and Procedure manuals be written as separate documents.

Training Material Processes

We begin by agreeing with the client about exactly what will go into the training material. Particular attention is paid to achievable outcomes and the examples and exercises that will support those outcomes. Access to key people, software and equipment help to make this a productive exercise. After becoming familiar with the material, we expect to spend approximately three to six days creating a first rough draft.

User Manuals and Policy and Procedure Manuals

We begin by deciding with clients about the table of contents. Particular attention is paid to the purpose of the manual and who will be using it. Working with screen capture utilities, tape records, cameras and client experts information is then gathered. We estimate that for every day spent gathering information, we'll spend two to four days creating a rough draft.

Operational Manuals

Deciding on the scope of an operational manual is how we begin this process. How the document will be used and the knowledge level of the users are important considerations. We work with client design engineers and expert users to gather information in a timely way. Our time estimates are similar to those of User manuals, though diagrams and drawings can make this a longer process.
